Leper Huts and health officials on Quail Island

Photo shows Dr Charles Upham of Lyttelton, Port Health Officer in panama hat, centre, my uncle Jack Annan (Assistant Health Officer and the Health Department's Lyttelton Disinfecting Officer) and his wife Annie. The leper colony on Quail Island was closed in 1931 after Jack Annan was injured when a pole fell on him while dismantling the huts and was dead on arrival at Christchurch Hospital.
