Railway office staff at the Railway Station on Moorhouse Avenue

1958

"Railway office staff at the laying of the foundation stone of the Railway Station in Moorhouse Avenue. Mary Boyle (Rooney), Helen Clark, Yonne Auld (Oakley), Valerie McKay (Le Breton), Aileen Rice (Carlisle), Pam..., Lorna MacKenzie (McQuillan), Marjorie Jackson, Lois Keeble. We were all shorthand typists in the District Traffic Manager's office. The photo was taken on a grassy area between the three storey building where the office were and a converted bungalow which housed other offices. The foundation stone was laid, a reception held over the road at the Tech. [now CPIT] Hall where we served afternoon tea to dignitaries, the Mayor and Mayoress etc." - Contributor's note
Judge's comment: What a joyous moment has been captured here. It's a wonderful staff photo and a fascinating showcase of women's 1950s fashion.

Kaye, of Kabella Baby, in Bishopdale Village Mall

4 May 2017

Kaye of Kabella Baby in Bishopdale Village Mall. The store is a quirky destination drawing people from all over Christchurch with its Rockabilly inspired fashion. The day this image was taken was May the 4th, and it is reflected in Kaye's Star Wars pattern dress.
