My mother (Iris Clarke nee Frazer) used to work for Miss Sparkes. In the 1990's 15 of the former staff held a ' reunion' at our home which was reported in the Press

Model from Spotlight model agency posing in an outfit designed by Jane Wolt which was part of the Telethon parade of Canterbury designer summer styles. The design also made it to the finals of the Benson and Hedges awards.

Skellerup Clothing award winning parka coat

26 January 1970

Mr Don Mitchell, a sales representative for Skellerup Clothing and Rubber Ltd, modelling a parka which was the first item of clothing to win the NZ Industrial Design Council award. Stood next to Mitchell is the coat's designer, Mr Lawson Calvert.

Christmas Lunch at Miss Sparkes " First for Fashion"

The dressmaking room girls sharing Christmas lunch with Miss Sparkes herself about 1948.  Back Row: Alice Jennings, Daphne Adams, Beverley Dennis, Valerie Eden, Gwenda Millar, Beverley Cherry.   Seated: Miss Sparkes, Margaret Treleaven, Ngarene Willocks, Eileen Welsh. Miss Sparkes was one of the leading ladies wear shops and showroom with a dressmaking room where they made "Mother of the Bride" garments, debutantes frocks, and the bridal gowns were always the talk of the town. Miss Sparkes showroom was in Armagh Street.
