Pipers at the New Zealand International Exhibition
1906
"This photograph was taken on the Avon in 1906 during the New Zealand International Exhibition held in Christchurch. My grandfather William Duncan was a piper in the Waimate Pipe Band and I believe he is one of the pipers in the canoes. There were three pipe bands (Dunedin, Ashburton and Waimate) at the Exhibition and they held the first NZ contest." - Contributor's note
