Purau school, Banks Peninsula

1907

"This is a photo of the first 6 scholars at Purau school in 1907 the children are from the Jackson family and the Gardiner family. My grandmother Edna Jackson with blonde hair is third from left. They were taught by Miss Eleanor Isherwood whose mother Susanna had been on the Canterbury Womans Institute with Kate Shepperd) Eleanor was a brilliant teacher, Purau was an isolated community my mother Elisabeth Ogilvie wrote the little book. " Purau" I love this photo of early education in a rural community on Banks Peninsula." - Contributor's note
