Belfast School children crossing the road

Children from Belfast School being helped across the road by teachers using a newly installed traffic island on Main North Road following the loss of a zebra crossing due to a four lane motorway being built.

Traffic from Papanui Road being diverted on Bealey Avenue

11 July 1974

Man directing traffic at the bottom of Papanui Road onto the other side of Bealey Avenue during sewerage works. A detour sign for March Construction ltd also directs traffic. A chemist and dairy is visible at the top of Victoria Street.
