Former Centaurus Road Stables and Brickworks

1980s

This photo was taken by Gordon and Libby Ogilvie who lived at 5 Centaurus Road for 50 years. It depicts the Brickworks on Centaurus Road prior to it's demolition in the 1980's to make way for new a housing development. Owned by Henry Kirk then sold to Horsley & Co in 1898 , ownership went to the Murphy Bros and was finally taken over by Ceramco. The square chimney and brick Georgian houses a longtime local landmark to those living in the area. Information sourced from " the Port Hills of Christchurch" written by Gordon Ogilvie
