Former Centaurus Road Stables and Brickworks

1980's

This photo was taken by Gordon and Libby Ogilvie who lived 5 Centaurus Road for 50 years. It depicts the Brickworks on Centaurus Road prior to it's demolition in the 1980's to make way for new housing development. Owned by Henry Kirk then sold to Horsley &Co in1898 , ownership went to the Murphy Bros and was finally taken over by Ceramco. The square chimney and brick Georgian houses a longtime local landmark to those living in the area. Information sourced from " the Port Hills of Christchurch" written by Gordon Ogilvie
