Hunting on the Denniston/Stockton Area

1940s

This depicts a culture of hunting in the rugged out-back mountains of the NZ West Coast in the Denniston-Stockton Plateau area. It was/is an acceptable culture to hunt wild food to feed the family. My family are from the area and this was taken from a successful hunting trip.

Meeting of the Brackenfield Hunt at Peveral Place

May 1889

A meeting of the Brackenfield Hunt held at Peveral Place in May 1889.
Contributor's note: "The Master of the hounds was J. B. Starkey and the Huntsman J. B. Parsons. The young man on the pony was probably one of the younger Mulcock sons, possibly William, who would have been 10 at the time. Next to him with the bow tie could be either Frederick (25) or Joseph (24)."
