Chenrezig sand mandala

Dalai Lama stone
4 February 2020
Stone to commemorate the planting of a Bhutan pine (pinus wallichiana) in the botanic gardens by His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama of Tibet. The stone bears the Tibetan characters of the Sanskrit mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum” (Hail to the Jewel in the Lotus), a prayer to Avalokitesvara (Tibetan: Chenresig), the bodhisattva of compassion, who the Dalai Lamas are a manifestation of.

Amitābha mantra stone

A stone in the Christchurch Botanic Gardens with the Tibetan mantra of the Buddha Amitābha, Om Ah Mi De Wa Hrih. The Panchen Lama is believed to be the human manifestation of Amitābha.
