Waka Launch, Waitangi day, Okains Bay
6 February 1977
As far as I know this Waitangi Day was the opening of the Thacker Museum at Okain’s Bay, and this was the first public Waitangi Day celebration to be held there. The tide was out, so there wasn’t much water in the stream. A TV crew filmed the event.
This photograph was highly commended by the judges in the 1970s decade category.
