Recycling old telephone books

Riccarton Girl Guides and Brownies with stacks of telephone books they are recycling to raise money to save the yellow eyed penguin. The 108th Halswell Brownie Pack with a telephone box. Mr Bradshaw, area service manager of customer equipment for Telecom, is pointing to a plaque on the phone box stating the Brownie Pack have adopted it and are responsible for its care.

Telephone directory collection

23 November 1976

Helen Mitchell (left) and Lorraine Barrett with piles of Telecom telephone directories for recycling by One Earth Trust. The collection was as a result of the changeover to subscriber trunk dialling, enabling people to make calls without an operator.
