Twenty first birthday
October 1955
Daughter and father handing her the "key to the door" at her 21st birthday celberations, October 1955. A dance and supper for extended family and friend was held at the local Selwyn Street hall. The cake was surrounded with silver painted wishbones. 21 wishbones for 21 wishes. Chicken meals were not common so it took a while to collect them for the occasion. Note the orchid corsage and the autograph book attached to the key. On turning 21 I was allowed to have my first alcoholic drink, a Pimm's No.1.
