Motorbikes at the Aranui Speedway
1950
Motorbikes at the Aranui Speedway, off Rowan Ave and Pages Road. The 'holding pit' in the foreground where bikes and racers waited for their race. Stockcars and midgets also raced, a popular form of entertainment at the time. "There was only the picture theatre and speedway". A lot of the early helmets were made out of papier mache. The photograph was taken on Jack's Box Brownie camera.
