Centenary day out

Harris Family

1951

Twins is a photo of my brothers and I. L-R: Arthur, Keith, Murray, Robert & John in front. Arthur & Robert were triplets but Arthur's identical brother was stillborn. They were the first triplets born on the now demolished St George's Maternity Wing. (Pre-fertility assistance!) It was great to be part of two sets of twins. Triplets and twins in one family is extremely rare. Keith and I have our ribboned [Canterbury] Centennial badges on. We grew up on the Balmoral forestry as dad was a ranger. This was a huge exciting day out. I remember watching a baby race - as they crawled the crowd surged. Keith and I got separated from Mum & Dad. A kind lady took us to the lost children set up. We were perched on a high bench and had two icecreams. Shortly mum appeared with a nice surprise - a pottle of icecream! Great day. PS. When Keith started school a teacher asked if he was a twin - he replied that he was a "singlet!" Our family still love these snippets today. Occasionally new unknown people asked when they hear I'm a twin - they ask without thinking are Muray and I identical?!
