Bealey Ave and Papanui Road corner, 1900s and 2014
Looking west towards Carlton Mill Road. The postcard at the top shows the old Carlton Hotel on the right with the original Carlton Corner shops hidden behind the trees and the shops on the corner of Victoria Street and Bealey Avenue to the left. The bottom photo shows the newly built Carlton Hotel and the modified Carlton Corner shops. On the left is a glimpse of the the bar Smash Palace that iccupies part of the site of the Victoria Street shops. Both the hotel and these shops were demolished following the Canterbury earthquakes in 201/2011.
