"Postcard. These two soldiers enlisted for the NZ Army. Private Ernest Rose from Dunedin on the right and an unnamed man from Leeston. They did war time service WWII 1914-1918. They served in the E. Company 30th reinforcements. Embarked for passage from Wellington 13 October 1917. Left Britain for France 14 January 1918. In France Ernest was in the field 13 April 1918. Wounded in October 2018. He was manning an Armstrong Gun and a whizz bang (bomb) dropped on his leg and was blown off. He was disabled for the rest of his life. Ernest was awarded the British War Medal and Victory medal. He never married. The war ruined his life." - Contributor's note
