St Joseph's Cathedral School

1924

"Girls posing for a class photos at St Joseph's Cathedral School in Barbadoes Street. The Catholic Cathedral is in the rear of the photo. Not all the girls are wearing uniform, ages range from 5 to 12 years. Pupils had to "pass" each year before going up to the next class. Many were held back and never completed primary school. This was the time of the Great Depression. Sign might read: Primers: 1-4. Standards 1-6." - Contributor's note
