Boy with a kitten
Boy with a kitten
"A formal studio portrait by a professional photographer. Little boys were dressed in dresses. This one is black velvet, lace collar, long white socks and patent leather shoes secured with a button through button hole. Taking a photograph involved the correct lighting. The subject had to sit very still. Photographers tricked children into sitting still by giving them an animal to hold. The left arm and hand are blurred so the boy found it hard to site still. His hair has been curled, boys had long hair until they went to school." - Contributor's note
