Sun bathing at Coes Ford
Sun bathing at Coes Ford
"Coes Ford was a favourite picnic spot for families that had cars. A picnic by the river was a change from the surf at Brighton. These girls are sunbathing oblivious to the little box brownie camera. The family car was a 1939 Austin and had seating for 5 children, 2 adults and picnic baskets. There were no shops or amenities. It took over an hour to travel to Coes Ford from Christchurch. One girl has olive skin, the other very fair and tried to hide her freckles." - Contributor's note
