"Walter Harkess at his daughter's 21st birthday on the 26 June. Walter married Hilda Huston. Walter was one of 9 children. His mother Sybilla Gardener was born in Lyttelton in 1860 and his father Thomas arrived in Lyttelton with his parents circa 1851. Walter was a carrier in Lyttelton. Walter and his father Thomas served 52 years combined service in the Lyttelton Voluntary Fire Brigade, Thomas 1892-1910, Walter 1897-1922.
