Surf pumping at New Brighton Pier on Thursday 2 April 2020
Surf pumping at New Brighton Pier on Thursday 2 April 2020
A three-day Easterly swell rolled into New Brighton, 15 Second period, E groundswell. The surf pumped at a solid 3-4 feet Wednesday and Thursday, dropping to 2-3 feet on Friday before a blustery E/NE onshore wind on Saturday ruined it. Three-day runs of solid swell are a gift for Christchurch surfers because the winds are so fickle in Christchurch and the swells often come up from the south and have to refract around Banks Peninsula which causes them to lose power and size. a 3-foot high wave in New Brighton could be 4 foot-high in Waikuku and 6 foot-high at Mangamaunu, just north in Kaikoura.
