Dalai Lama stone
Dalai Lama stone
Stone to commemorate the planting of a Bhutan pine (pinus wallichiana) in the botanic gardens by His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama of Tibet. The stone bears the Tibetan characters of the Sanskrit mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum” (Hail to the Jewel in the Lotus), a prayer to Avalokitesvara (Tibetan: Chenresig), the bodhisattva of compassion, who the Dalai Lamas are a manifestation of.
