Student Filming in the Square

September 1989

I was making a film for art school about puppetry in New Zealand. I like this photo because it was a pretty typical outfit in those days for me - everything about my look is DIY, including my haircut and colour. Eventually as my boots fell apart I tied them together with fabric and string and they also joined the collection. Back in the 1980's Christchurch was even more conservative and I got a lot of looks and comments as I cruised around town. I must have handed my camera to my friend to hold - because these photos were a surprise.
