Fernglen House at Purau Bay

Fernglen House at Purau Bay
Grooming of the Hair: Jackson Sisters ( Edna, Lynley and Thelma), Fernglen, Purau 1921.
The Jackson homestead at the head of the Purau Valley was a hub of hospitality from the 1890's to the the 1930's.The verandah was the centre stage for many photographs, where aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and prospective suitors were welcomed, arriving by boat to help with shearing, mustering or spring cleaning. Fancy dress parties, sports competitions and woolshed dances were a highlight. They were forced to create their own fun with much conviviality, good food and fresh sea air. Fun, frolics and fashion abounded and a good shiny head of hair was paramount.
