Irene Watts and her first bike
Irene Watts and her first bike
Irene Watts and her first bike, Photo taken from 10-12 Middlepark Road, Upper Riccarton, looking directly (behind Irene) at the empty section that was later to become Gladson Avenue. Behind that section and the row of topped poplar trees were raspberry fields (Gilman's?), where many local children earned summer pocket money by picking the raspberries. (And some sneaked in after work and before dark to eat a handful or two.) The house in the photo belonged to the McNaughton family.
