Learning through play at home
Contributor’s note: “Learning through play at home. Catherine Hanham at home in Shirley, Christchurch. 1967. This is my sister Catherine with her best friend Teddy. They were inseparable (apart from the one time he got left at the Ajax Street kindy by mistake – but that’s another story). The slide is made out of anything on hand – wooden boxes and the plank that I remember Dad using as a scaffolding board. It wouldn’t have been that slick for a slide but there was Burwood park around the corner for that thrill. In the background is the typical domestic scene I grew up with - vegetable garden, hose, boxed sandpit, and rotary clothesline with the wooden tea box repurposed as the peg box. You made do with what you had”.
