Catherine and Sue Hanham riding on a bike

1968

Contributor’s note: “Big sister and little sister (Catherine and Susan Hanham) living and learning in Shirley, Christchurch, 1968. My sister Catherine is learning to ride and I’m learning to trust her. Once she took a corner too close and too fast. The back wheel slipped into the garden and the tricycle tipped over. I fell out and hit my head on the side of the house. This incident explained a lot later in life – the dip on the top of my head and the chiropractor asking if I was dropped on my head as a baby (which my parents denied). Despite this episode I still feel safe in a vehicle when my sister is driving”.
