Class is in session
Susan Hanham with her class of ‘students’ at her home in Shirley. Contributor’s note: “I liked school. So much that on weekends I played ‘Schools’ at home. Not just on Saturday, but also on Sunday. My sister played along too, but never on a Sunday and after awhile it was just me on a Saturday. We had mock classrooms setup in the garage. Our toys were the students. We copied what we knew from our actual school days. This included class photos. So here I am as teacher with my class. I still remember most their names – David, Tony, Vicki, Belinda, Stephen, Russell. The paddling pool behind propped up the toys for the photo. We would load the toys/students into the back bucket of the tricycle and ‘bus’ them home to various bushes around the garden at the end of the school day. I don’t recall who retrieved them from the bushes so they weren’t left out in all weather”.
