Governor's Bay Jetty views

October 2023

Contributor’s note: “This collage of 3 photos is about the new/rebuilt Governor's Bay Jetty that was recently opened. The photos were taken in early October 2023. The previous/old jetty was damaged in the 2011 earthquake. The collage includes a photo taken from the jetty looking back at the tree lined shore at the bottom of Governors Bay with the summit towards the Sign of the Kiwi in the background. A second photo shows the morning sunlight shining on the jetty and what remains of the site of the old boat shed that was destroyed many years ago in a fire. The third photo is taken from the roadway down to the jetty and shows a nearby boat anchored in the bay. If this photo collage wins a prize, I would like to donate it to the Secretary of the Governors Bay Jetty Trust (Louisa Eades) who devoted an enormous amount of her time and effort over several years to make the rebuild of the jetty a reality. Louisa played a huge role in fundraising and worked with other Board trustees, liaising with the community and others in the process. We owe her and her trustee colleagues a gratitude of debt. I would encourage Christchurch people to visit the new jetty for a lovely walk/day out. To learn more about the jetty or to find out how you can make a donation to help finding for the rebuild, please go to the following Save the Jetty website link: https://www.savethejetty.org/".
