Deceased Sperm Whale at South Brighton Beach, Christchurch. NZ.
Late evening of the 4th of Nov 2023, a large sperm whale was stranded on the ocean side of a sandbar out from South Brighton Surf Club. During the night, volunteers held vigil over the whale however it passed away. Large whales are a challenge to refloat and often they may be unwell. Necessary officials were on the seen like Project Jonah, Te Ngāi Tūāhuriri Rūnanga, Environment Canterbury, Department of Conservation and the Police.
