Moving the Deceased Sperm Whale at South Brighton Beach, Christchurch 2023

On Saturday the 4th of November 2023, a 15m long male sperm whale was stranded on the ocean side of a sandbar out from South Brighton Surf Club, however it died. The following evening, the whale was carefully moved and buried beneath the dunes.
