Sign for Brocheries Road, named after one of Akaroa’s early French settler families.

Contributors note: "This is a photo of my last name as a road in the hills of Takamatua in Banks Peninsula in June 2025; my ancestor, Lucien Brocherie came from Mayenne in France and settled in Akaroa in the early 1860s and took up farming; the Brocheries farmed on Purple Peak Farm up at Curries Reserve as well as French Farm as well as we’re involved with Brammer Lodge and Barry’s Bay Cheese Factory; a lot of the Brocherie history remains today in Akaroa and this road is a reminder of their history and heritage that still remains in Canterbury."
