Ada Wells and her family with the Women's Suffrage Petition
Ada Wells and her family with the Women's Suffrage Petition
The Wells family with the Women’s Suffrage Petition, Ada Wells and her three daughters, from left: Alice, Alma and Christabel, photographed at the New Zealand Exhibition in Hagley Park.
Contributors note: "I think that this picture was taken at the NZ Exhibition in Hagley Park, where you could have your picture taken with the Suffrage petition. Seated at the front is Ada Wells, my great great grandmother. She was the first woman city councilor for Christchurch. She was also a key figure in the suffrage movement. I *think* she is holding the petition or a portion of it. Sitting with her are her daughters, Left is 'Bim' (Alice Cecile Wells), 'Cos" (Alma Lucy Blanche Wells) and "Mim" Christabel Mary Wells."
