Colombo Street cityscape
Colombo Street cityscape
Horse drawn carriages travelling down Colombo Street.
Contributors note: "This print of a photo belongs to Trevor & Jenny Agnew. When they were teaching at Hillmorton high school (around 1970) a pupil brought in a glass plate negative to show his art teacher (Ray Newman). It is the view down Colombo st, looking towards the Cathedral & Port Hills, from the Cook & Ross corner. Ray Newman found out the photo was probably taken from the back of a horse & cart for the elevated view. He took a photo from the same place by standing on the back of a truck (& blocking traffic!) The art teacher had a broken arm & managed to drop the glass plate, which is why there is a line across it. The framer coloured the line in with grey pencils. Telegraph/telephone wires - one for each connection. Not sure when exactly the photo was taken. It is 1 metre by 75cm so we were unable to scan it."
