"This photo is of Dorothy Noldus (nee Merriman) and Gertrude Merriman (nee Wood) her stepmother, outside the Christchurch Cathedral in 1949. Dorothy Noldus was a nurse in Wellington during the war and met her future husband who was convalescing there are being a dutch prisoner of war in Singapore during the Second World War. 1949 was the year the couple moved back to Christchurch after getting married in Singapore in 1947." - Contributor's note
