"This is the old Christchurch City Library. This is a very important snapshot in time that marks an event that changed many many lives for better or worse. I remember this library from childhood. Buildings get knocked down, renovated and rebuilt all the time but the Earthquake really was a significant event to live through; I think this photo really captures a slice of that period in time that will be remember[ed] by many forever." - Contributor's note
