Christchurch Quake Floorball Club
Christchurch Floorball Club (CFC) - The Christchurch Floorball Club became an Incorporated Society in October 2016 with the purpose to introduce and promote floorball to all ages in the Canterbury region. Floorball is played across the country under the umbrella of Floorball New Zealand and includes local, national and international tournaments. Our club regularly represents Christchurch in National Tournaments and has some players who represent New Zealand in the National team. Currently we have 55 adult and youth members. In September 2014 and 2015 we won the local Christchurch Floorball Open, the National NZ tournament and the Wellington Open which enabled our team to become Champions of New Zealand. What is Floorball? Floorball is a fast-paced indoor hockey game using lightweight sticks and a hollow ball, initially created in Sweden and now popular worldwide with international tournaments and a future sport of the Olympics. Floorball is an easy to learn, non-contact sport and the Floorball stick is light and easy to handle. The game is played with five field players and a goalie on each of the opposing teams. Floorball Development in Canterbury - Floorball training is offered twice a week for adult players and weekly after school training for school age children. Adults train at Ara Recreation Centre on Monday and Thursday nights and children train on Monday nights at West Rolleston Primary School Rolleston, and on Thursday nights at Halswell School, Halswell. Future plans are to develop Floorball further in schools both primary and secondary and to offer Floorball training in more areas of Christchurch building up our Youth teams. We are also planning for the Mens World Floorball Champion Qualifiers in 2020 being held in Thailand.
