Chisnallwood Family Memorial Plaques
This plaque is on the Colombo Street side of Victoria Square [origianlly called Market Square] between the red phone box and a post box.. The Chisnall and Wood families (related by marriage) farmed the Sandhill Run that stretched from the Styx River to the estuary. They supplied milk and produce to Christchurch residents in Market Square (now Victoria Square). Wood subsequently became known as the owner of Woods Mill flour mill. The tow names were combined in the name of Chisnallwood Intermediate School in Avondale.
