Victoria Square

The Pou Whenua, carved by local carver Riki Manuel and erected in 1994 as a 1990 project to commemorate the signing of the Treay of Waitangi, can be seen in the right background. The main theme of the poupou is mahinga kai (food resources). It also depicts tipuna (ancestors) of the Ngāi Tahu-Waitaha people.
