School Closures Protest

22 September 2012

Over 1000 people, including many children, gathered at Hagley Park netball courts for a protest rally against Canterbury's school shake-up. The Education Ministry proposal to close 13 Canterbury schools and merge 18 others, announced in September 2012, shocked many in the community who expected further engagement before specific plans were made.
