Earthquakes + snowstorms = deep trouble

Earthquakes + snowstorms = deep trouble
In the Residential Red Zone, snow-thaw from the mid-August 2011 blizzard combined with existing earthquake damage to create sudden and massive pot-holes. Residents trying to navigate the treacherous roads had to keep a wary eye out for ankle-or-axle-breakingly deep pits & sudden subsidence. Note the wheely bin at left, acting as an impromptu hazard marker, especially at night-time!
