This photo depicts my father Christchurch chef Joe Verweij giving Admiral Dufek of the United State Air Force a pot of soup which he had made and named “Potage Dufek’. The caption on the back of the photo written by Joe Verweij in Dutch reads: This photo was taken in 1957 just before Admiral Dufek (far right) departed for the South Pole. Next to him in the leather jackets is the pilot Hank/Frank Hanson and a friend of mine. In the large pot is a soup ‘Potage Dufek’….
