Andrews Sisters tribute band and Andrews sisters

13 July 2011

Andrews Sisters tribute band with Andrews Sisters, Margaret Shirtcliff and Elaine Andrews.

Contributors note: "The Andrews Sisters meet The Andrews Sisters 13 July 2011. A concert was being held of songs from World War 2 sung by "The Andrews Sisters". The original Andrews Sisters were an American close harmony singing group of the swing and boogie-woogie eras. I invited my husband's two remaining aunties to the event held in a tent in Hagley Park due to the lack of venues after the earthquakes. They were Margaret Shirtcliff nee Andrews (1916 - 2012) in red and her sister-in-law Elaine Andrews nee Cole (1922- 2014). Sadly David's mother Doreen Minifie nee Andrews (1914 - 1981) and his other Aunty Betty Townsend nee Andrews (1911 - 2005) had already passed on. The Andrews family were based in Timaru and enjoyed taking part in The Savage Club concerts. I felt it was very appropriate to invite the aunties to what was a very enjoyable concert on a cold winter's day. Unfortunately I don't have the names of the entertaining Andrews Sisters. "
