View from the Brownlee Reserve
View from the Brownlee Reserve
"This photo was taken at dusk from Brownlee reserve on Clifton. Growing up and going through my teen years in the aftermath of the quakes, the Port Hills and the Southern Alps were comforting in their constancy; both a literal a[nd] metaphorical rock with which to ground myself amidst the turmoil and ever-changing fabric of our city. While the buildings may change, and the people come and go, the seasons will always turn in their course, and the landscape remains. Rediscovering the beauty in the landscape which had wrought and suffered so much destruction has been a key part of healing from the trauma of the quakes for me.
"Whenever I need to find peace, or to clear my head, I always return to the hills, and the landscape around Christchurch, and this photo (taken during my favourite season and at my favourite time of day) is, in a way, a sort of love letter to the land. Time may pass, our city may change, and quakes may stir us, but the land remains." - Contributor's note
