Reenactment of the arrest of Scottie Russell

12 March 1997

Salvation Army captain, Peter Roberts, and policemen, Neil Williams and Jeff Evans, re-enacting the arrest of Scottie Russell from 100 years previously to launch the Salvation Army's Red Shield appeal. They are on Sumner Road outside the Lyttelton Police Station.

As this is an image from the Star collection, they often have the newspaper article on the back of them, from this Lieutenant "Scottie" Russell spent 48 hours in Lyttelton Gaol for refusing to pay a fine for obstruction due to a bylaw prohibiting street gatherings.
