Family picnic at Pines Beach

1979

Sitting under a tree during a family picnic at Pines beach.
Contributor's note: "Family picnic at Pines beach. Folding chairs and stools, chilly bins, car rugs, floppy toweling hats, high chairs of wood, plastic potty at the ready! Thermos flask. Griffins sampler biscuit box. Half-G of cordial (home made). My nephew being a bored teenager. Must have been hot - we're sheltering under the tree. Typical old slide ands swings in the background. Also loaf of unsliced bread on chopping board. My extended family - mum, dad, brother and sisters, nephews and nieces."

Highly commended: 2013 Christchurch City Libraries Photo Hunt.

Judge's comment: "The images give us a real sense of how the family lived their life. It was interesting to see what events were chosen as important moments, holidays, snow, learning to ride a bike, the simple pleasures of sharing a meal or a BBQ and family interactions in their lounge."
