The Locke family cottage in the Avon Loop

392 Oxford Terrace. "Writer and activist Elsie Locke lived there with her husband Jack and their family from 1944 until their deaths in 1996 and 2001. The cottage was demolished before the Canterbury earthquakes (and would certainly have been destroyed by them) so their daughter Alison Locke and her husband Mike Moss could build a modern home on the site, preserving the look of the original cottage from the road. The new house survived both earthquakes without noticeable damage, but had to be demolished anyway when the Avon Loop was zoned red." - Contributor's note

I lived at one time in or near the Loop, in the cottage still standing cnr. Barbadpoes St - Nova Pl. Prominent Identity Elsie Locke used to host a Community 'Crumble' supper (IIRC Monthly), all Loop residents invited with contributions. I was not confident enough as a (Folk) musician to contribute, but later having moved across town I spent 2 years as 'resident' at the (now demolished) Victorian Coffee Gallery, cnr, Oxford Tce - Colombo St.
