This is another photo taken between mid 1964 and mid 1965. Note the black plates on the car and yellow on the Post Office truck. The car closest to camera is a Wolseley 15/60, an upmarket version of the Austin Cambridge/Morris Oxford. The yellow car parked across the street is a 1959 Pontiac Laurentian, one of 72 imported from Canada that year for local assembly. The cars arrived semi knocked down (SKD) - with the bodies painted and trimmed. They were assembled in the GM truck plant at Petone. Note the car's wheels appear to be a long way under the body. For 1959 the US Pontiacs got a new 'wide track' chassis but the Chevrolets didn't. The Laurentian was built using a US designed body on a Chevrolet chassis and so for this year they looked a bit odd.
