I stood on this spot in July 2001 with my brother, it was the second time he had been on an outing after suffering a near fatal heart attack. He had been treated at the hospital in Christchurch, where he was nicknamed the miracle man for surviving 3 attacks in a week. I had flown out to be with him from Wales and he wanted to show me at least part of New Zealand, we stood here and he explained how the river floods and how suddenly it can change. It was wonderful to be with him and see him out of hospital. He even manages to return to Wales but at the moment is happily back in Rangiora. Thank you.
