St Martin's (Christchurch) Sewer Gang

circa 1927

All work done by pick and shovel, horses, drays, scoops & men. My dad Leslie Ballantyne Cox had men and equipment working here. He began contracting about this time and constructed many roads in Christchurch and surrounding area. He and now his grandson Clive Cox runs a contracting firm. My father is not present in photo but we can only name three men and two dogs! Fred Drayton, Nick Wall & Walter Reesby. The dogs were Ponto and Roy. I have a list of roads dad constructed and I wrote a story of his life published in NZSG [New Zealand Society of Genealogists] Napier Conference "On the horses back" (2004).
